Good interview but amazingly naive interview question at the end. The interviewer swallows hook, line, and sinker that so-called “conservatism” as we know it in our time, is towards “individual liberty”. That’s the propaganda, but the facts to anyone who wants to look at Reagan, Bush Sr, Bush Jr are reflective of an extreme authoritarian Statism which is a massive assault on this “individual liberty” they supposedly are for.

Whether its privacy, whether its sexual freedom, whether it’s habeas corpus, etc, the vicious hatdred for any individual freedom which might stand in the way of centralized elite corporate power and wealth is impossible to miss without all but the most determined blinders.

So conservatives are not “more protective” of but LESS protective of individual liberty. This liberty is just a slogan meaning, let corporations roll over society like tanks.

At the same time the idea that leftist anarchism is “less” protective of individual liberty, is another swallowing of dogma rather than looking at what historically those who come from that political philosophy have actually advocated.

But that while still under Bush Jr’s assault on freedom people still talk about “conservatives are for individual liberty” wins the Orwell DoubleThink award.

notice how at the beginning the interiviewer tried to get Chomsky to say something about religion and all that he said was that some people find comfort in it and implied there is nothing wrong with that, and I never saw any reason to follow that path. This is how religion should be approached any where in the world. It is a personal choice and a personal decision and if you choose to believe in something as long as you don’t harm no one or impose your belief on no one, you should be spared the abuse. Both intellectual abuse (like subjecting you to ridicule and endless argumentation ) and physical abuse.
